About the show
“Now I will tell you a secret that no one knows but me. I have a twin sister... Her name is Ylva-li. Say it several times in a row, and you will hear how beautiful it sounds. Ylva-li, Ylva-li, Ylva-li. My name is just Barbro. But Ylva-li never says my name. She calls me 'Dearest Sister.' Ylva-li likes me very much. Dad mostly likes mom, and mom mostly likes my little brother, who was born this spring. But Ylva-li only likes me.”
From the book “Dearest Sister” by Astrid Lindgren.
“Dearest Sister” is one of Astrid Lindgren's most beloved children's books and is about the longing to be seen and the power of imagination, which saves us from loneliness.
“Behind the rosebush Salikon is a gate that leads to the Golden Hall where Barbro's secret twin sister Ylva-li is queen. For Ylva-li, Barbro is 'my Dearest Sister' and while Barbro's mom and dad only have time for little brother, Ylva-li and Dearest Sister ride Goldfoot and Silverfoot into a magical world. On adventures through the Great Terrible Forest and over the Meadow of the Kind where they are offered cakes and candies, they finally arrive at the Most Beautiful Valley in the World, where only Ylva-li and Dearest Sister may come.”
In this folk musical opera, composed by Sofia Thelin, songs, folk music, new circus, and light projections are blended in a beautiful and imaginative way. Singers, the composer herself, and some of Malmö's foremost folk musicians participate. They contribute with strings, percussion, flutes, bouzouki, and accordion. The musicians in the folk orchestra also sing and act on stage. Circus artists perform and act as the Wicked and the Kind.
The rights to the book have been obtained by Sofia Thelin from Saltkråkan AB, now Astrid Lindgren AB
The performance is sponsored by Musikverket.
