ALOK

About the show
Poet, comedian, speaker, actor – Alok Vaid-Menon, known by the stage name ALOK, is an artist who moves freely between genres and expressions. On May 14, the internationally recognized queer icon comes to Cirkus with a performance where stand-up and poetry meet in a personal, humorous, and often deeply touching storytelling.
ALOK's stage art is based on personal experiences of living as transfeminine and non-binary, weaving together sharp social analysis with vulnerability, warmth, and perfect comedic timing. The result is a show that makes the audience both laugh and think – sometimes in the same breath.
You might recognize ALOK from the Netflix special Gender Agenda or from their extensive work as an author and cultural personality. ALOK's books, including Beyond the Gender Binary, Femme in Public, and Your Wound, My Garden, have been internationally acclaimed and have contributed to shaping the conversation around gender, identity, and self-expression. Meanwhile, ALOK's stage performances have toured worldwide and sold out theaters in more than 40 countries.
Offstage, ALOK is also a strong voice for inclusion and creative freedom – not least in the fashion world, where they have long been a driving force in challenging norms and celebrating individual expressions.
On May 14 at Cirkus in Stockholm, it will be an evening where humor, poetry, and personal storytelling meet in a performance that moves as freely between laughter and seriousness as ALOK themselves do between different artistic expressions.
