Archive: Don't We Love You Then - Homage to Olle Adolphson

About the show
On October 22, Olle Adolphson's memory and music are celebrated at Cirkus in Stockholm. In connection with Olle's 90th birthday this year, a unique concert evening is presented, 'Don't We Love You Then, a homage to Olle Adolphson'. Olle Adolphson, who was a central figure in Swedish music and cultural life for over five decades, has left an indelible mark through his beloved songs such as 'Trubbel', 'Nu har jag fått den jag vill ha' and 'Gustav Lindströms visa'. His songs have not only touched generations but continue to live on, inspire, and reach new listeners.
During the tribute evening, Tomas Andersson Wij, Jakob Hellman, Lisa Nilsson, Amanda Ginsburg, Emil Svanängen (Loney Dear), Janice, Moonica Mac, Lill Lindfors, Mats Bergström, Peter Morén, Junior Brielle, Zacke, and Vilma Flood will take the stage at Cirkus to honor and interpret Olle Adolphson's great song treasure. Subject to change.
'Olle unites across generations and genres, and we are sure that this will be a completely unique and varied evening to remember for a long time. Perhaps as well as I remember when I saw Olle at the concert hall as a nineteen-year-old and got confirmed what I already knew; That is MY ballad singer. The one who touches me more and reaches further in. Maybe he can also become yours?' says Peter Morén, who together with Ronald Bood (who produced Olle's last studio album 'Älskar inte jag dig då' in 1994) is the initiator of both last year's tribute album and this concert.
The ballad writer, author, artist, composer, and singer Olle Adolphson was one of the most important figures in the Swedish ballad of the 60s and 70s. Olle was born on May 2, 1934, in Stockholm and passed away on March 10, 2004. He debuted in 1956 with the ballad collection Aubade. Among his most famous songs is 'Trubbel', which became very well-known, not least through Monica Zetterlund's recording. The ballads 'Det gåtfulla folket' and 'Mitt eget land', which he wrote together with Beppe Wolgers, are two more examples of his more famous works. Olle Adolphson wrote the Swedish lyrics to '34:an', the song about the old house that was to be demolished, after the American original 'This Ole House', which became a national hit in the 1960s, when the lyrics were very relevant in Stockholm, as well as in many other Swedish cities.
Olle's lyrics and themes are eternal and timeless. His range of emotions; sorrow, melancholy, human frailty, and the difficulty of making life work, the beauty and comfort of nature, humor, playfulness, a keen eye for details, and an art of seeing life for what it is; multifaceted and in all shades of the spectrum, all of this somehow fits well in our time. His equally great respect for music makes him completely unique. Unforgettable harmonies and melodies from a fantastic guitarist who takes you on a winding journey over folk tunes, French chanson, bossa nova, English ballads, and classical masters all the way into the folk park.
