Archive: An evening with Fran Lebowitz

About the show
In 1978, her bestselling debut book Metropolitan Life was released, followed by Social Studies in 1981 and collected essays in The Fran Lebowitz Reader in 1994. Alongside writing, Fran Lebowitz has appeared in minor film and TV roles, often connected to her good friend, director Martin Scorsese.
All combined, she has managed over the years to create an almost iconic personality, which she herself commented on in a recent interview; 'The greatest burden of being Fran Lebowitz is living up to the image of Fran Lebowitz.'
Right now, we can see her in the acclaimed Netflix documentary Pretend it’s a city, where in seven episodes, among other things, you get to experience Fran Lebowitz's vivid portrayal of New York, her passion for literature, and reflections on the development of society. The last time Fran Lebowitz visited Sweden was when her late friend Toni Morrison received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993.
– Her passion and expressive depictions will be a delight to experience on our stage. To welcome Fran Lebowitz to Sweden and Cirkus for the first time in 29 years, and on International Women's Day, no less, makes it all the more special, says Ingmari Pagenkemper, CEO and Artistic Director of Cirkus.
