Archive: Is this reality? Virtual worlds, AI & the enigma of consciousness

About the show
During the year, AI development has taken a revolutionary leap. We live in a society that is increasingly integrated with the digital and which may soon be flooded with computer-generated content.
As technology continues to evolve, it will become increasingly difficult to distinguish between the virtual and the real, and eventually almost impossible. Is it a problem?
There have been calls for a temporary halt to AI development to gain control over its potential risks. Are we facing a tomorrow where machines “wake up” and become conscious? Could all of humanity be in danger?
Fri Tanke is proud to present an evening about virtual realities, Artificial Intelligence, and the enigma of consciousness. We have invited one of the world's leading consciousness and technology philosophers, David Chalmers, to present and discuss these issues. Chalmers is also currently working on the book Virtual Worlds, about VR and its philosophical problems.
During an evening in two acts, we will explore the philosophical and political problems posed by technological developments in AI and VR, as well as the related question of the nature of consciousness.
Participants:
David Chalmers, professor of philosophy at New York University
Gustav Söderström, Chief Product and R&D Officer at Spotify
Anders Ynnerman, professor of scientific visualization at Linköping University and program director for WASP (Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program)
Henrik Kugelberg, researcher in political philosophy and moral philosophy at Stanford University
Julia Uddén, assistant professor in psychology and linguistics, Stockholm University
The discussions are moderated by Christer Sturmark, publisher and CEO of Fri Tanke.
The evening is set to music by Erik Söderlind, guitarist.
