About the show
Artists had a particularly important position during the time of communism, so the role of Bijelo Dugme was crucial in Yugoslavia. They were the turnover in this socialist culture that shyly sought its way beyond given values. They spread the necessity of talent, the need for authenticity, the importance of attitude, commitment, high professionalism, all wrapped in modern clothes – so basically everything that was insufficient for the time they witnessed.
They have shaped the rock culture in Yugoslavia and defined teenagers as an organized category. They fought and won for the freedom of taste, which was unimaginable in socialism until then. They were one of the rare capitalist entities in Yugoslavia, as well as the best promotion of this country's values. They lived and worked according to all the rules of Western rock culture. In the mid-1970s, Bijelo Dugme was almost a lifestyle.
Bijelo Dugme in its existence has already had two lives (the second being their revolutionary reunion in Sarajevo, Zagreb, and Belgrade in 2005). Now Bijelo Dugme is going through the third phase of Bregović's analysis of modern times. Its message is that the future of Bijelo Dugme is not in its past. The years change, as do countries, regimes, systems, and aesthetics, and so does Bijelo Dugme.
