About the show
“Children of the Night” is a performance with a gothic style and modern choreography, based on the academic tradition of ballet.
The play is about mythological androgynous creatures. These creatures once had two pairs of arms, two pairs of legs, and two faces on the same body. They thought there was no one in the world more beautiful and powerful than them, that they were equal to God. As punishment for this hubris, the creatures' bodies were split in two and became man and woman.
The legend of these androgynous creatures gave rise to the phrase “Find your soulmate.” This is something all humans strive for. In “Children of the Night,” humanity is already divided. The consequence of the division is a crack that symbolizes the weakness we all share.
Through the crack, temptations, passions, and negative emotions that separate the halves enter. However, by overcoming trials, humans can achieve enlightenment and a higher form of relationships.
The ballet explores the temptations and passions that surround us and shows how love conquers all.
Choreography and staging: Oleksandr Abdukarimov
Music: Antonio Vivaldi, Max Richter
