Archive: Manfred Mann's Earth Band

About the show
Keyboard virtuoso Manfred Mann's career spans an impressive six decades. He was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1940 but has been active in England since 1962. Together with the band also called Manfred Mann, he had more hits in England than The Beatles in the 60s.
In 1971, he formed Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, which pursued more progressive rock and cross-genre sound similar to British bands like Cream and Traffic. They also interpreted other artists and had a big hit with their version of Bruce Springsteen's “Blinded by the Light”.
Over time, there have been countless chart-topping hits with classics like Ellie Greenwich's “Do Wah Diddy Diddy”, The Shirelles’ “Sha La La” and Bob Dylan's “The Mighty Quinn”. After more than 40 active years, everyone from Sting to Paul Weller and Del Amitri to Super Furry Animals has been interpreted by Manfred Mann’s Earth Band.
