Archive: Oliver Anthony – Out of the Woods

About the show
Country singer and songwriter Oliver Anthony made music history in 2023 when he became the first artist ever to debut at the top of Billboard – without ever having had a song on the chart before. He is also the first living male songwriter to have 13 songs simultaneously on Billboard’s Top 50 Digital Song Sales.
Anthony is a musical poet for the people. He became a national sensation overnight with the release of “Rich Men North of Richmond” – a song that has been called the nation’s “blue-collar anthem” but at the same time touched Americans from all walks of life. The song has been streamed over 77 million times on YouTube and over 115 million times on various streaming platforms. Five of his other songs have reached the top 10 on iTunes, with “I’ve Got to Get Sober” reaching number 3. “Ain’t Got a Dollar” took the top spot on Spotify’s Viral 50 chart and number 2 on iTunes.
Anthony is changing the way artists release music and how they interact with their fans. He speaks directly to them directly and when the spirit moves him – via videos taken in his truck or surrounded by his dogs. Anthony does not rely on others to tell his story or interpret his intentions. He has been compared to artists like Bob Dylan, who also speaks truth for those who do not have a platform to reveal their struggles.
His passionate voice has a unique and emotional rasp shaped by his own personal battles. It captures the sense of despair in people living without hope, especially those living in small-town or rural America. His songs address everything from the nation’s wealth disparities, suicide rates, and taxes to imbalance and abuse of power.
