Soweto Gospel Choir

About the show
The internationally acclaimed Soweto Gospel Choir returns to Sweden in 2026 with an entirely new production – JOY!, which in Zulu is called Injabulo.
The choir is based in South African Soweto, an area just outside Johannesburg and home to both Nelson Mandela and the country's democratic freedom movement, but has made a name for itself worldwide. After over 20 years on the world stage, they continue to inspire audiences with concerts that transcend linguistic, cultural, and musical boundaries.
In JOY!, they embrace South Africa's rich musical tradition. Here, traditional African gospel and spirituals are combined with freedom songs and modern classics. The concert celebrates joy, community, and the power of music to unite us – especially in uncertain times. With magnificent vocal performances, colorful costumes, captivating rhythms, and a particularly powerful way of conveying emotions, the choir creates an uplifting and moving concert experience.
As multiple Grammy Award winners, Soweto Gospel Choir has performed on the world's most prestigious stages and collaborated with artists like Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Peter Gabriel, and U2.
JOY! is a reminder of humanity and how high we can reach when we raise our voices – together. Let the choir's infectious energy brighten your day, and get ready for a colorful concert in the spirit of joy!
