Guaranteed Christmas spirit and a lot of swing when the soul and gospel king Samuel
Ljungblahd and the supergroup The Mamas embark on a joint Christmas tour together with one of
Sweden's best big bands – Bohuslän Big Band.
This is not the first time Samuel Ljungblahd goes on tour together with Bohuslän Big
Band. Over the years, they have done several acclaimed Christmas concerts and now it's time again, and
this time they are joined by the three fantastic voices of The Mamas.
In the Christmas concert “The Soul of Christmas” you will experience an intimate mix of Motown-scented
soul, gospel, jazz, and Christmas classics.
Samuel Ljungblahd is described as Sweden's uncrowned soul and gospel king. He has released several
albums, toured, and made numerous acclaimed performances in various TV productions over the years.
He perhaps gained the most attention when he sang the recessional at Prince Carl Philip and
Princess Sofia's wedding in front of tens of millions of TV viewers and got the whole church, including
the royal family, to dance and clap their hands.
The Mamas consist of three sympathetic divas – American Ash Haynes, Scanian Loulou LaMotte
and Swedish/Eritrean Dinah Yonas Manna. A trio of singers with character and talent beyond the
ordinary. The Mamas broke through in their own name when they won first place in Melodifestivalen
2020 with the hit song “Move”, the following year they again took a podium place with “In the middle”. But The
Mamas captured the hearts and ears of many Swedes already in 2019, as singers behind
John Lundvik's Melodifestivalen entry “Too late for love”. After the record win in the Swedish competition
The Mamas, together with John, represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest where they
finished in a well-deserved fifth place.
Bohuslän Big Band has been called “A World Class Jazz Orchestra” by none other than Quincy Jones. The band
once started as a military orchestra for Bohus Battalion and is today one of Sweden's most
renowned big bands. Bohuslän Big Band has played with international jazz giants such as
Gregory Porter, Vince Mendoza, Maria Schneider, and Nils Landgren, and beloved artists like Jill
Johnson, Björn Skifs, and Tommy Körberg. Since 2004, Bohuslän Big Band has been part of Vara
Concert Hall.
