About the show
When the night romantics from Nottingham have stayed away for a few years, the longing for them becomes apparent. That's where we are now, in a situation where we really need Stuart Staples' characteristically vibrating baritone, marked by nicotine and disrupted circadian rhythm, as weathered as it is beautiful, impossible to ignore. And then the music that, with sensitive feelers, multifaceted instrumentation, and low-intensity drama, swirls just behind. For thirty years, Tindersticks have created their own little world. They have sung about dirt, destructiveness, desires, bars, and death, but where such things in the hands of others easily border on the grimy, there is always something urbane, even sophisticated, about Tindersticks' recordings and performances.
The new album Distractions was released in February and is Tindersticks' thirteenth since their formation in 1991. Just like on their predecessors, they continue on the new record to refine the moods that have made it natural for their music to be placed in numerous film and TV productions (they have a close and long-standing collaboration with director Claire Denis), art installations, fashion shows, as well as various dance and theater projects.
