VERKA SERDUCHKA, the Eurovision sensation and the iconic character born from the creative genius of Andriy Danylko is the most successful Ukrainian pop music export throughout history.
The humorous and vibrant middle-aged drag diva made her first appearance in 1991. Danylko’s ingenious blend of comedy and music through SERDUCHKA quickly caught the public’s imagination, making her a household name in Ukraine and far beyond. Her shows, characterized by humor, satire, and irresistibly catchy pop tunes, were not just entertainment but a new cultural phenomenon – think Gogol Bordello meets Dame Edna Everage in one person!
The Eurovision Song Contest 2007 was a turning point for VERKA SERDUCHKA, catapulting her to international fame. Representing Ukraine with the song ”Dancing Lasha Tumbai,” SERDUCHKA delivered a performance that was both controversial and captivating. The song that all of Europe today knows by heart, finished at an impressive second place, etching SERDUCHKA’s name in the annals of Eurovision history. Since that time VERKA SERDUCHKA remains a welcome guest at every Eurovision Song Contest – and a beloved figure in Ukrainian and European pop culture, with multimillion album sales! Her ability to connect with audiences across cultural and linguistic barriers speaks volumes about SERDUCHKA’s universal appeal.
In 2022 SERDUCHKA’s creator Andriy Danylko received The Award of Merit from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his outstanding efforts in support of Ukrainian relief efforts.
