YAMATO - The drummers of Japan
About the show
Let an incredibly skilled Japanese drum group captivate you with all its power.
Japanese taiko drumming is based on a tradition that goes back hundreds of years, and now for the first time, you can experience it live in Sweden when YAMATO – The Drummers of Japan come here in October.
The group has already been seen by over eight million spectators in 54 different countries, and as part of their world tour, YAMATO will perform “Hito no Chikara – The Power of Human Strength” at Cirkus in Stockholm on October 28.
In total, there will be over forty unique and traditional taiko drums on stage, each with its own character. You will feel the power of “Odaiko,” the largest drum, made from a massive tree over 400 years old. The drum measures over two meters in diameter and weighs an impressive 500 kilos.
Members of the YAMATO group train rigorously to master the art of playing Taiko. For practitioners at this level, it is about more than just explosively hitting the drums, and they also have the ability to evoke a rich array of nuanced and varied tones.
Each taiko drum, regardless of size, has its very own sound. The audience will enjoy a carefully crafted soundscape with powerful music that paints intensity, sorrow, comfort, and even humor. This is a performance that leaves listeners speechless, and the acoustic power exceeds all expectations.
Authentic Japanese drum music is celebrated year after year and attracts more and more fans. At Cirkus, they will offer an immersive show that will delight all who love Japanese music and culture.
